Thaddeus Thaler
For ANC Commissioner of 5E03
Bloomingdale has been my home for the past nine years—from my first apartment as a renter on 2nd Street to planting roots as a homeowner on North Capitol. Living here, I've seen firsthand the spirit that makes our neighborhood special: neighbors who look out for one another and voices that come together to build lasting change.
In my career as a federal employee, I've served in several roles, including chief of staff and director of the management and planning division at the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General, and now, on my second tour at the US Secret Service, the executive advisor to the Chief Financial Officer.
I'm deeply committed to making our neighborhood the best it can be. I want to hear from you—your concerns, your hopes, your ideas—as we work together to shape Bloomingdale's future.
Why I'm running
I believe our neighborhood deserves dedicated, effective representation through its ANC. I'll bring accessibility, persistence, and strong agency relationships to the role. Most importantly, I'll bring a genuine commitment to serving every resident of 5E03. It's about building relationships, staying engaged, and following through consistently; something I have done for years in our community and want to now do as your official, elected representative. Good representation isn't about having all the power—it's about using every available tool to serve constituents effectively.
Testimonials
"As a fellow homeowner on his block, I truly appreciate the work Thaddeus put into taking the initiative to take the lead and coordinate with homeowners to fix the bad drainage and install new gravel in our shared easement alley. He easily got us all onboard as a long overdue fix, finding and working with the contractor so the rest of us homeowners didn't have to do a thing—it's a huge improvement! Also, Thaddeus was diligent in informing me about squatters in front of my house. I would love to have Thaddeus represent and advocate for our area 5E03!"— Adama Fall, North Capitol St NW
"Thad has earned my trust and friendship through many years of working with him on several issues of concern to our community, including matters involving McMillan Park and the envisioned North Capitol Street Deckover initiative among others. I have found Thad to listen closely to others' concerns, respectful of differing and even contrary points of view, and found him to be an effective and fair intermediary in all interactions with government officials, carefully and patiently but concisely putting matters before decisionmakers while conscious of the constraints and limits on the decisionmakers' authority and responsibility. Thad would, in my opinion, be an excellent choice for ANC Single Member District Commissioner and I'm very pleased that he has considered entering the election to do so."— Kirby Vining, Stronghold
"Thaddeus's proactive approach to dealing with all assortment of local issues like parking, rats, broken sidewalks and potholes, reporting bad drivers, illegal dumping and so on is a great service to all his neighbors! He also keeps a great beat on the drums! Thad is simply rad!"— Sean Lawrence, North Capitol St NE
"Thaddeus is so effective and builds trusting relationships—including with DDOT—, a fantastic listener, public speaker; he goes in depth into issues. Great strategist and public speaker! And he is respectful and a nice person! Such a rare package!"— Sandrine Boukerche, North Capitol St NE
"I have known Thaddeus for several years, working with him on several neighborhood initiatives, including common sense and bold solutions for North Capitol Street. Thaddeus is a consummate professional, advocating for safety improvements and community engagement. Thaddeus is unafraid to speak his mind but also be an active listener when it has been a rare trait to find. Thaddeus has the fortitude and dedication to advocate for improvements and connect resources to residents."— Mark Galvan, Commissioner for single member district 5F04*
